HOMESCHOOLING?
Okay, I have been thinking of homeschooling my children for sometime now. However, I know it's a huge commitment and would be very time consuming on my end. I also wasn't the best in school when I was young...as a matter of fact I really didn't like it all!! With that being said, I don't know if I would be a good teacher for my children. Of course that is very important to me!! I have done a lot of research on the idea and have discovered that more and more parents are homeschooling their kids...that does comfort me some I have to say. I am very back and forth with this. However, I would like to be able to come to a serious decision by the time my two year old should start school. I want the best for my children and I am sure that they are not receiving the best education in the public school setting. Also, unfortunately I can say out of experience that the school environment isn't a goood one for kids to learn and succeed in these days. There are so many distractions and negative pier pressure around them all the time!! Like I said I want the best for them...just scared to make such a huge decision!! I'm worried and indecisive!!

aww hun, you can do it. No one knows a child better than a mother. I was very unsure before starting also, but I now know it was the right thing for us. It is definitely a huge commitment and it's stressful and exhausting, but, the rewards far exceed all of the struggles.
ReplyDeleteGood thing for you though, is that you still have another 2 years or so to come to a final decision. I'm sure when the time comes you will make the right one for your family!
One thing you can begin to do is start slowly structuring his day with learning. (Which all mothers already do anyway!) and just see if you like it or if you think it would be too much for you to handle. Good luck with your decision.
Thanks so much for your encouraging words! Boy do I need them! lol I am so glad that I stumbled apon your blog. You seem to do so well with your children at home! I am sure that following you will be great support if I decide to homeschool. Thanks again!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome. :)
ReplyDeleteI used to teach and I used to see the teachers that are employed in the schools these days. They are in the same boat you are when they start. They weren't always very good at learning when they were in school. I've seen some teachers cry when looking at sixth grade math problems and then they go on to teach sixth grade two years later. If nothing else, know that you are in the exact same spot as the teachers out there in the schools. I hope to homeschool our little ones and it's overwhelming to me too! Choosing books scares me! But I'm hoping to surround myself with other homeschool moms and get their advice. I found out when I was teaching that you learn the material all over again yourself as you teach it. You'll be a great homeschool mom! If you need more encouragement let me know because I truly believe that any parent can not only do it but be better than a regular teacher! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Anna! It's such a relief to get such positive feed back! I know I will be needing it more and more in the future if I decide to go forward with homeschooling. It's great to get encouragement from someone who has professional teaching experience! It really helps with the stress! lol
ReplyDeleteHey girl,
ReplyDeleteIt's good that you are even thinking about it. I wasn't at the top of my class. Neither was my husband. Praise the Lord, there is resources and help. I wrote some stuff on why my husband and I decided to homeschool on my blog. You can check it out if you like.
Research. Don't be afraid. God will help you through.
God Bless
